Our Lady of Love Supreme
Womb of the universe. Ana turns away the false prophets, lawyers, money managers,
war mongers, and idols from the Temple of God

A letter to the editors by Bridget Mary Meehan in response to an editorial in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch conserning the local ordination of two women priests held at a Jewish Central Reform Congregation in November of 2007.

"The Roman Catholic institutional church has much to repent in its treatment of the people of the First Covenant. Current biblical scholarship has opened our eyes to Christian anti-Semitism as misunderstanding and misinterpretation of our founding texts. As conscientious disciples of Jesus of Nazareth, we in Roman Catholic Womenpriests firmly believe all people of faith must stand together for justice, equality and peace.

Jesus set an example of partnership and equality. Jesus called Mary of Magdala to be the apostle of the apostles, and women served as deacons, priests and bishops in the early church.

The Second Vatican Council (1962-65) defined the church as the People of God. The hierarchy are members of the church, but in some cases, such as women's ordination, it does not reflect the beliefs and attitudes of the broader Catholic community. Our church teaches the primacy of conscience. Church teaching always must reflect the sense of the faithful, or sensus fidelium. Since 64 percent of Catholics support women's ordination, we know that Roman Catholics are supportive of women priests. Roman Catholic Womenpriests offers the church a gift of a renewed priestly ministry in a community of equals."
